Ten Questions to Ask Over a Glass
Conversation starters for couples who already know each other’s favourite order and want to learn something new.
The first glass loosens the shoulders. The second question does the real work. Here are ten questions to keep in your pocket for the evenings when the conversation needs a nudge. Pour slowly, ask one, and let the answer run.
1. What is the best drink you have ever had, and where were you?
2. Which smell takes you straight back to childhood?
3. What was the first thing we drank together, and what did we think of it?
4. If we could taste anything from anywhere, what would the trip look like?
5. Which small ritual from your family would you like us to keep?
6. What is something you have changed your mind about in the last five years?
7. What did you want to be when you were young, and what part of that do you still carry?
8. Which evening in the last year would you happily live again?
9. What would a perfect ordinary Tuesday look like for us in ten years?
10. What is one thing I do that makes your life easier that you have never mentioned?
A few tips. Let each question breathe: the first answer is often the polite one, and the second is the true one. Do not argue with the answers, just ask a second question. Keep the mood light; this is not a therapy session and it is not a quiz.
And if you are married and would like to ask these in the company of other couples, The Elite Gypsies, an invite-only social platform exclusively for married couples, is one place to find them.
